Amicalola Deer Park

Amicalola Deer Park is an animal preserve near Amicalola State Park.  At Christmas time, they have Santa there and his reindeer, and it is so much fun!  This was our first year going, and we loved it.

First we walked around and saw the animals.  All the animals there are rescue animals.

Look at that face.  Chess was in heaven here and was not afraid of any of the animals.  We brought celery and carrots.  This little pony loved the carrots, but not the celery so much.

Lera made this face whenever an animal got too close to her.

This picture cracks me up.  She liked the IDEA of feeding the goats, so she had a carrot in hand.  Well, these goats were not shy and started following her.  In this picture she was backing up as fast as her little legs would carry her.

Chess let the goat eat right out of her hand.

This little guy is eating the strings hanging off the rip in Jared's jeans.

Llamas!

So, after looking at and feeding animals, you wait on the "sleigh" to come pick you up and take you see Santa and his reindeer.  We went on a nice ride with one of Santa's elves driving the tractor, I mean sleigh.

Then we got to feed the reindeer, which were really beautiful.  I think this one here is Comet.

Then we saw Santa!  All the kids got as much time as they wanted with Santa and moms and dads could take all the pictures and video they wanted.  Lera seemed skeptical at first, but when she saw the jar of candy canes, her mind was made up for her.

When Santa asked Chess what she wanted for Christmas, she looked around and said, "a Christmas tree."  Santa kind of laughed and said, "I'm sure you'll have one of those.  Do you like baby dolls?" Ha!  Good fall-back, Santa.

Cheese!

These girls are crazy about candy!

Then Santa did some magic tricks and we rode back.

They did a great job at the deer park.  I highly recommend it.  Make sure you bring cash.  Or check.  Not credit cards.  I know from experience. :)

That looks like so much fun! Chess is just like you were with animals when you were a child--not afraid at all! Lera is sooo cute with that scrunched up face and going as fast as she can backwards! lol! I laughed out loud when I read your caption with that picture, cause I could see her little legs going as fast as she could! By the way--your pictures are awesome! You really are a great photographer!
